  1. Report: Stress
Many people today complain that they are stressed, but is this really true or are they simply having to do more than normal? Real stress is a serious condition that can be responsible for a number of mental and physical problems. Below, we will look firstly at possible causes of this kind of stress, secondly, at symptoms of stress; then, finally, at ways of treating stress.
    Common causes of stress:
    - Unhappines in personal relationships
    - Worry about your school, college or work
    - Anxiety about exams you have to take
    Symptoms of stress:
    - Feeling tired all the time
    - Problems sleeping
    - Loss of appetite or overeating
    - Problems concentrating on studying or at work
    Treating stress:
    - It's best not to drink tea, coffee or cola drinks, because they all contain caffeine, which can make symptoms of stress worse
    - Doing exercise can make you feel less stressed
    - If you try all of the above, but still feel over stressed, then it may be a good idea to see a doctor.

  2. Sample Article:
There's a competition in a travel magazine to win a three-week holiday. To win the competition, write an article (approximately 100 words) saying where you'll go and what you'll do.
A place where the weather is good, where there are beautiful beaches as well as ancient ruins to see- If I win the competion, I'm going to go to Greece.
I'll start mt trip in Athens and visit the famous Acropolis, and the Plaka area, full of shops and restaurants.I'd like to spend evenings sitting outside at tavernas, enjoying some typical Greek food and wine, while watching people go by.
After spending a few days sightseeing in Athens, I'll get a ferry to the island of Crete. There's lots to do there, enough for a week at least: plenty of beaches to sunbathe on; ancient ruins to visit; and hidden villages to explore.
The journey back home to England will be part of my trip. I'll catch up a ferry to Italy and travel up to Milan by train, stopping in places that look interesting. Then from Milan, I'll get the overnight train to Paris. If I have time, I'll spend a day or two there, before catching the Eurostar to London.

  3. Example of an unsatisfactory article: Grade D

Write an article for a website called www.unusualtravel.com about an unusual holiday destination. Include details on how to get to the place, where to stay and what activities there are for the day and night.

    Dear members of www.unusualtravel.com:
I listened about an unusual place, I have been searching information about that place, it is in Mexico, a little town in Jalisco named Tapalpa, it is a beautiful landmark and you can do many things in Tapalpa, it has some rocks but these ones are bigger as a builting and you can go camping beside of the big rocks or cam in the wonderful forest, you can enjoy all typical food as birria that is delicious or stay in they wonderful hotels, the only form to arrive at that place is by bus, we can take it in Guadalajara and the tickets are not expensive, Tapalpa could be a good option for people who want to rest.
    Main problems:
    - the candidate doesn't address the main points of the task in sufficient detail
    - there are some omissions (what activities there are for the night)
    - some irrelevant details (food to eat)
    - no appropriate format: there is no heading, no introduction, no paragraphs and no conclusions
    - wrong beginning "Dear members"
    - little coverage of the language required

  4. SAMPLE REVIEW
Last night the Brighton festival Singers gave a concert at All Saints Church. The concert began at 8.00 p.m. and finished at 10.00. They were conducted by John Makepiece who has conducted many major choirs in several European countries. The programme included works by Bach, Handel and the Beatles! As you can imagine there was something for everyone!
The quality of the singing was very high and two pieces were accompanied beautifully by 19-year-old Jenny Wilkins on the piano.
The choir was established in 1987 and consists of local singers who meet weekly to rehearse and prepare performances. Everyone should take the opportunity to go to their next performance.
